Over the years, there have been many updates to the legal requirements regarding written communication between client and advisor, and texting is now governed by such laws. Many of you have asked why we have often replied to text messages via email. The reason is because traditional text messaging, unlike email, does not comply with the archiving requirements of written communication.
Therefore, we’ve implemented new technology which links our office lines to our cell phones using VOIP (voice-over-internet-protocol) technology. This allows us to archive incoming text messages in order to be compliant with regulations regarding written correspondence. No, we do not record telephone conversations! But text messages, while fully confidential, must be archived.
From now on, please use our office phone numbers if you would like to send us a text message. These messages will be visible on our cell phones instantaneously, just as traditional text messages are. However, the actual messages pass through our servers so that we are compliant with current regulations.
Now… that doesn’t mean we are going to reply to a text message at 11 pm on a Sunday!!! (hint hint) However, this new technology should provide great convenience to all of us.
In short: we are now allowed to converse with you via text message. From now on, if you would like to send us text messages, please do so by using our office telephone numbers.
