3rd Annual MORWM Giving with Purpose List
Dear Clients and Friends,
It’s been a few weeks since we’ve written about the economy/markets, and given recent volatility (yet again), we promise to do so next week. But this weekend, as had been scheduled previously, we give you our third annual “Giving With Purpose.”
We all struggle with gift ideas for some people during the holiday season. Therefore, we hope you enjoy this list of awesome gift ideas, all of which add a level of charity to our holiday spirit by giving back to the community.
Please join us in giving credit to Gloria for her wonderful research this year. Below are our top ten picks for 2018.
“SOCKS ARE THE #1 MOST REQUESTED CLOTHING ITEM AT HOMELESS SHELTERS. When we first heard this quote, we knew we had to do something. We started Bombas to make an impact on our community here in the U.S. For every pair you purchase, we donate a pair to someone in need.”
Bombas donates specially engineered socks to meet the specific needs of those who do not have the luxury of putting on a clean pair of socks every day. An anti-microbial treatment ensures that they don't need to be washed as often, while reinforced seams and darker colors give them greater durability with less visible wear.
Cuddle + Kind
“We created cuddle+kind because we wanted to make beautiful hand-knit dolls that help feed children. So for every cuddle+kind doll sold, we give 10 meals to children in need.”
Incredible women artisans in Peru lovingly handcraft every doll with natural, high-quality cotton.
Gifts for Good
“We're helping nonprofits and social enterprises expand their reach and grow their impact. At Gifts for Good, we serve companies and professionals with high quality goods that people will love to give and love to receive. We are proud to be the first company ever to fully focus on adding social impact to the corporate gifting industry.”
Gifts for Good supports the work of over 40 nonprofits and social enterprises in 19 US states and 65 countries around the globe.
Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co
“Grounds & Hounds was created with an overarching purpose in mind; provide every at-risk pup with a second chance at a full life. To turn our passion into action, we collaborate with some of the most innovative animal rescue & welfare organizations throughout the country to provide funding and support for life-saving initiatives that impact rescue pups in communities throughout the country.”
20% of all Grounds & Hounds profits are deployed to rescue organizations that work to make the second-chance mission a reality. Their coffee beans are 100% fair trade, 100% certified organic, and sourced from the best growing regions throughout the world. The coffee is roasted using a traditional European style, focusing on savory, full-bodied blends. Grounds & Hounds helps to ensure the sustainability and quality of their coffee by supporting farmers who utilize natural agricultural methods.
“Heifer International works with communities to increase income, improve child nutrition, care for the Earth, and ultimately end world hunger and poverty.”
Heifer trains individuals in sustainable and environmentally friendly farming methods, the creation and operation of businesses, and how to use their knowledge to support their communities. By providing access to the market, farming strengthens entire communities by making large-scale improvements to existing economic systems. Women are able to develop leadership skills so that they can access educational and entrepreneurial opportunities.
“We make water safe to drink. And with every product sold, a child in need receives safe water for an entire school year.”
LifeStraw’s products make contaminated water safe to drink. The filtration process removes bacteria, parasites and chemicals.
Sword & Plough
“Our mission is to empower veteran employment, reduce waste and strengthen shared civil-military understanding. Our name, Sword & Plough, originates from the ancient saying, ‘to turn swords into plough shares.’”
Sword & Plough is a certified B-Corp that donates to organizations that support veterans. They employ veterans within their management team, through contract manufacturing partners, and in their fulfillment center. They reduce waste and minimize their carbon footprint by incorporating repurposed military materials into their designs. Bags and accessories are made by veteran-owned or partially operated manufacturers in the U.S.
Taste of Immokalee
“IGNITING DREAMS. CHANGING COMMUNITIES. Our social enterprise is a student entrepreneurship program where teens learn to operate a successful business for the purpose of making social change. They create products that are inspired by the abundance of local fresh produce in Immokalee, Florida – one of the poorest communities in America – and use the profits to alleviate poverty their community.”
Taste of Immokalee empowers students to break the cycle of poverty by making products that reflect their culture.
United By Blue
“We created United By Blue with the idea that a successful outdoor brand can do serious conservation work. This means everyone here at United By Blue is rolling up their sleeves and removing plastic bottles, styrofoam, tires, old appliances, you name it from creeks, rivers, beaches, and streams. We organize and host cleanups to make a measurable impact on the most pressing of environmental problems: ocean trash and plastics pollution.”
United By Blue is a certified B-Corp that designs their outdoor products to be good for the environment. Long-lasting recycled polyester is used to make their products; this material is made from plastic water bottles, bison fiber discarded as a byproduct of the ranching industry, and organic cotton that uses zero pesticides.
“Since day one, over 4 million pairs of glasses have been distributed through our Buy a Pair, Give a Pair program. Alleviating the problem of impaired vision is at the heart of what we do, and with your help, our impact continues to expand.”
2.5 billion people around the world need glasses but do not have access to them. Warby Parker works with partners worldwide to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need. Individuals are trained to administer basic eye exams and sell glasses for affordable prices.
Hopefully, this list inspired you to give a little more (or a little more deliberately) this holiday season. If you saw something that you liked on this list, we would absolutely love to hear your gifting story!
Happy and healthy holidays from everyone here at MOR Wealth Management!
