Dear Clients and Friends,
This month is B-Corp month. We are encouraging everyone to embrace the movement and chose B-Corp services and products wherever possible.
Most of you know that MOR Wealth Management is a registered B-Corp. Earning this designation is one of our proudest accomplishments. A quick refresher: a Benefit Corporation, or “B-Corp,” is a type of corporate structure that requires management to consider certain issues, in addition to shareholder profit, in their decision-making process. For example, let’s say that a non-B-Corp company implements an expensive but environmentally responsible process that exceeds what local law requires. If this company has a traditional corporate structure, shareholders can sue the board of directors for breach of fiduciary responsibility because the price of their stock shares may have gone up more if that company was less of an environmental advocate.
Unlike traditional companies, certified Benefit Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their employees, suppliers, community, consumers, and the environment. Certification by B Lab, a nonprofit organization, is attained after meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance. There are currently 3,243 certified Benefit Corporations representing 71 countries and over 150 industries. All share one common goal: to use the power of business to solve social and environmental challenges.
Amy is the force that drove us to become a B-Corp. We all owe her a debt of gratitude for starting us on this journey several years ago. Here is what she had to say:
“Be the change you seek.” I love the B Corp tagline. I had been aware of B Corp for many years before coming to MORWM, and was searching for a professional home with a culture that embodied the belief that business can be a force for good. My first interview with Matt made it clear that MORWM was exactly this kind of place. I am very grateful that Matt was as excited about the idea as I was.
B Lab helped us to examine all aspects of our business and to see the impact of our choices on us, our clients, and the larger world. We were made aware of the power of every decision and reminded that there could be a better option. It has had a ripple effect into our home lives, too. This was not simply about monetary donations... we can choose the environmentally friendly detergent, bring in our neighbor’s trash cans, plant a tree, vote. It all adds up to a connected, nurturing community. That sounds like a place where I want to live and work. #BtheChange.

Here’s what Matt says about it:
We, entrepreneurs and citizens of the earth, must ask ourselves if we can do well in business, and do good for the community. The answer is yes...
In the broadest sense of the word “environment,” Wall Street is among the worst polluters. It doesn’t have to be that way. Deeply seated in our mission at MORWM is the desire to be responsible in our investment practice, our corporate governance, our environmental stewardship, and, most importantly, our community commitment. Our statistics prove that even Wall Street, if motivated, can accomplish business success while driving community leadership. And this is just the beginning.
We are a B-Corp. We are one of only 68 investment firms in the entire US that is certified as a B-Corp. Join us and B the change.

Folks, this month is B-Corp month. As we mentioned above, we are encouraging everyone to embrace the movement and chose B-Corps for service providers and products wherever possible. Keep your eye out for shopping ideas as the month goes on.
To wrap up this article, and begin the theme of the month, please watch this 3-minute video. It will change the way you shop, it will change the way you think about service providers, and it will change your habits as a consumer.
(Amy this is our web page so we need to test it to make sure its obvious what video to click. Otherwise we can just use the you tube link)
Have a lovely weekend.
-Everyone at MORWM, citizens of planet Earth, and members of our community at large
